Horse Drawn Sleigh

Vibrant cabinet card showing a husband and wife taking their horse drawn sleigh for a ride.  An added treat is the actual sleigh bells attached the bridle and reins.  One of the more fascinating photographic features is the wonderful ripple effect the cold has had on the collodion!  It reminds us of what can happen with film on extremely cold days and certainly puts a smile on our face having experienced this phenomenon ourselves.   We can associate with the difficulties this photographer faced at an even more advanced level on this bitter day.   We can also sense the degree of cold by the long length of the icicles hanging from the crude roof over the cellar door.  A pen identification reads Mrs. Laura Kantz on the back.  The image is in excellent minus condition with nice tones and contrast.  A few scattered spots on the mount as seen.  By R. L. Ulrich, Selins Grove, PA.
